Here's answers to some of the big questions:

Is a Health Savings Account Right for me?

A Health Savings Account can be a great alternative to traditional medical insurance, but its important to understand exactly how they work before choosing this style of health insurance. On the plus side, the Qualified High Deductible Health Plan that goes with the HSA can be less expensive than traditional medical plans, though they don't contain copays for routine care or prescription drugs like many traditional medical plans do. If you are single with no medical needs and/or your family is young and healthy, a Qualified High Deductible Health plan with an HSA can be a great way to control your health insurance costs.

Additionally, the money put into an HSA is tax deductible and the balance can sit and earn interest or be used to pay for 'Qualified Medical Expenses' such as doctor's office visits, labwork/X-Ray/prescriptions, or to pay down a deductible or other bills from your doctor.

Am I insurable with pre-existing conditions?

In many cases, yes. Traditional medical insurance and HSA PLans have varying underwriting criteria from one insurance carrier to the next, so some may decline for a pre-existing condition where another carrier might accept it for coverage with a rate-up. It's our job to know the details, and our goal to help you find coverage that works for you. Contact us any time to learn how we can help cover pre-existing conditions.

Colorado's Maternity Coverage Mandate Starts in 2011

Colorado Governor Bill Ritter signed 8 health related bills into law, including a new measure that will require all individual health insurance policies to include coverage for contraception and pregnancy.

The new law takes effect on January 1st, 2011 and shall apply to health insurance policies issued on or after January 1st, 2011.

House Bill 1021, sponsored by Democratic Representatives Jerry Frangas and Beth McCann, requires all insurers to offer contraception and maternity coverage, except for women that wait and buy individual health insurance plans after they are already pregnant.

Colorado women that wait and buy individual health insurance coverage after they are already pregnant will have the pregnancy excluded as a pre-existing condition. Employer sponsored group health insurance plans can not exclude pregnancy as a pre-existing condition in Colorado.
